Brüe
Marek and I started getting really into brewing after taking a StuCo (student-taught course) on “Beer Brewing and Beer Appreciation” (we also take serious classes sometimes).
Our very own microbrewery, The Dirty Robot Brew Works, now not only has several very well recieved ales to its name, we've also expanded from our original location (Marek's kitchen) to two (my kitchen also), recruited additional German talent (Fred) and now have kegging and lagering equipment.
Being the n3rdb0y5 that we are, we (procrastinatingly) constructed a sensor rig that keeps track of our fermentation and posts intra-bubble graphs online, allowing us to rush home from work as soon as fermentation is completed.
Check out how our current beer is doing here!
Photography
I just recently started getting into digital photography and am still learning a lot.
Disco Fire is my photoblog, and I also have a flickr page.
Roillo
Marek and I designed a little robot named Roillo (its body shape is inspired by Reuleaux tetrahedra sized according to the golden ratio) as part of a human-robot interaction class.
It was designed to be an inexpensive social robot to be used in playrooms. Its research purpose is to investigate the relationship between appearance, motion, and timing as a foundation for more complicated social interaction between robots and humans. It also sports an awesome little head antenna for gesturing purposes.
We're still working on it.
Lieblingsgedicht
Ich sprach nachts: Es werde Licht!
Aber heller wurd' es nicht.
Ich sprach: Wasser werde Wein!
Doch das Wasser ließ das sein.
Ich sprach: Lahmer, Du kannst gehen!
Doch er blieb auf Krücken stehen.
Da ward auch dem Dümmsten klar,
daß ich nicht der Heiland war.
Oompah!
I play b(ig)ass drum in Carnegie Mellon's premier Oompah (German beertent music) band, the concisely named “Roboterforschungsinstitutsstudentenoompahmusikspielvereinigung”, strangely also known as “Die Gummifrauen”.
The other guilty parties involved are Marek (trombone), Fred (baritone t.f.), Clark (clarinet), Tom (trumpet) and Geoff (blonde wig and beer stein).
We debuted at SCS Day 2006. Check out our performance here:
Oompah Video [Quicktime, 60M]. We also rocked the Robotics Institute Gala 2006, by faculty request.
We kind of suck. And wouldn't want it any other way.
